Women’s Obsession With Luigi Mangione Highlights the Growing Disillusionment With Average Men
His attractiveness goes way beyond his looks. So men, take notes.
On December 4, 2024, United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot outside a midtown Hilton hotel in New York City. Without knowing anything about the killer or their identity, the internet went into a frenzy with many referring to the shooter as a hero, applauding his ability to take justice into his own hands as the American healthcare system has screwed over millions of people across the nation. On December 9, 2024, Lugi Mangione, 26, was captured, becoming the main suspect. Immediately, we discovered Luigi was an attractive guy, which garnered lots of attention. However, the more we began digging and learning about him, the hotter he became.
I intend for this article to be more of a deep dive into what makes Luigi so irresistible to women, and how this phenomenon highlights the disappointment women feel towards men as nowadays, they lack many of the qualities Luigi possesses. However, before I get into that, I must address the obvious — the case itself.
My overall stance on the case is that we should honor the presumption of innocence — innocent until proven guilty. Whether Luigi did it or not, I don’t feel like he’s a “terrorist” or a threat to society, and I think the charges against him are unfair. Though I know murder is obviously wrong, and I don’t condone it, I can understand why the public is on his side. I think it’s the shooter’s way of creating some pushback as a social worker stated here, maybe even his way of being a martyr for society. I saw a video on TikTok of someone saying the shooter used a gun on Brian Thompson, but Thompson metaphorically used a briefcase to kill millions of people. That represents the thought process of many.
Why Is Luigi So Hot? This Is the Obvious Answer.
Looks do matter. Let’s be real, pretty privilege is a thing. When you’re attractive, you get more attention and respect — at first. To keep women interested, though, there’s got to be more behind the pretty face and hot body. And Luigi is the full package.
What About Luigi’s Personality Makes Him Swoon-Worthy?
Let’s start with reputation. I don’t personally know Luigi, but I am chronically online, which means I’ve seen and learned so much about the way others perceive him. Usually, when someone becomes famous or goes viral, people start digging into their past. Oftentimes, online sleuths always find something negative or have bad things to say, but this is a rare case I’ve seen where it’s the exact opposite. Everyone only has nice things to say about Luigi. For example, a girl posted on a Chinese platform about one of her interactions with Luigi that has gone viral. At first, it was mistranslated — it was believed that whenever Luigi ate someone’s ice cream in the Hawaii co-living space he resided in, he would replace it with another ice cream. However, the reality is much sweeter; the girl mentioned in passing that someone stole her ice cream, so Luigi went out of his way to buy her one and wrapped it with blue painter’s tape, creating a DIY ribbon and bow, and presenting it as a gift to surprise her. Women online went crazy over this gesture because even though it’s not a huge deal, it goes to show how much we appreciate the little things. This is just one of many viral positive stories that further prove that being kind and well-liked is important. Because of this, it’s sparked thousands of conversations online, stating that most men don’t understand what women truly want.
Luigi’s Digital Footprint Adds to the Intrigue.
In today’s world, especially for millennials and Gen Z, social media is so important. That’s why I believe the way you market yourself, A.K.A. your brand, is crucial. You may not be the best-looking person, but the way you post online can change that — it can make you appear ugly or attractive, and I’m not only referring to the physical. If you come off as an overall positive person, others will gravitate toward you. If you do the opposite, you’ll be received with negativity. Luigi’s social media accounts do a good job of displaying his interests and personality. His Instagram account, which was taken down hours after his arrest, featured photos with family, on vacation, on adventures, in school, with friends, etc. In most of them, he appeared to be smiling and having fun. He came off as confident, likable, friendly, family-oriented, and fun to be around. He didn’t come off thirsty, obnoxious, or full of himself. Then, on X (formerly Twitter), Goodreads, and Reddit, you learn more about his intellectual side and realize Luigi is a deep thinker with a lot of substance. When I started digging through those posts, I quickly realized he was someone I’d befriend and want to date. He actually reminds me a lot of myself. He’s the type of person that I know I could learn from and have good conversations with. Women love smart guys, especially emotionally intelligent men. Luigi comes off as a hot nerd who cares about intellect, other people, and standing up for what’s right. Even though there is a lot about him online, he’s mastered the ability to remain private and mysterious about his personal life. What’s not to love about that?

Luigi’s Character Is the Cherry on Top.
He’s an Ivy League graduate, who loves to read, learn, travel, and stay in shape. However, after his arrest, we’ve learned so much more about his character, which has won over the hearts of many. Just the way he has carried himself since his arrest speaks volumes.
Confidence Is Key.
Throughout both perp walks — when he arrived in NYC on December 19 and when left his first NYC court hearing on December 23 — he gracefully walked with his head held high, showcasing his confidence for the world to see. Confidence makes a man. To many who believe he did it, he’s a hero. He’s the guy in the movie who does something “bad” for the greater good. To those who believe he didn’t do it, he’s the guy being framed but still recognized as a hero for handling it like a badass. Either way, Luigi Mangione is the type of guy who was written by a woman. He’s a rebel committed to a plan, and women love that. Women value men who are proactive, compassionate, and have integrity. We need more men who possess these qualities in the world.
